Experiments Using Liquid Clay Transfer!

12:30 PM Edit This 0 Comments »
Last night I could hardly wait to try my hand at image transfers. TurkishDelites and I had our first attempt completely fail, so in turn, I scoured the internet for information and techniques about this particular method of image transfers.

Liquid clay transfers can be used on transfer paper, toner prints, photocopied images, crayon and colored pencil drawings, as well as magazine and newspapers. This can provide a whole new medium of creativity. It can just be tricky to get it to work. Not everyone can afford laser printers, and the color laser printers are expensive. You could always color in black and white laser prints with colored pencils, but that does not cover other finer detail projects. Complete color photos do not always work by being printed in greyscale and then colored. Transfer paper is easy, but can be expensive, and if you are trying to cut costs, this will only increase the amount you have to spend on your pieces. Newspapers and magazines are great, because most households have stacks of old newspapers and magazines waiting to be cut into art.

My experiment last night was a picture of a round waffle from a Pam ad, and two heart-shaped strawberries from a veggie sausage ad. I plan to make a magnet out of the pieces. Mounting them will be an additional experiment with working with the liquid clay transfers. The actual pieces that I finished with are transparent. So whatever background you mount them on will show through. If I wanted to make my waffle have a printed background, but not show through I would probably paint the back of the transfer white. These are all things to experiment with.

Today I tried ink jet transfers on normal printer paper. The black cartridge one turned out, but my color picture did not, so I am working on getting that to work and will post a picture later!

Calcifer Hair Pin - Howl's Moving Castle

9:55 PM Edit This 0 Comments »

I posted a new hair pin. It's Calcifer from Howl's Moving Castle. This was pretty fun to make. It sort of taught me how to make fire, which was fun. Painting this piece actually took quite a bit of work; at least more than I had originally anticipated. I'm really hoping that this piece sells more than I do others, because I enjoyed making it so much that I want someone to enjoy wearing it as well.

I think that is one of the biggest things that makes Etsy different than eBay. While eBay is great for buying commercial merchandise at a lower price, Etsy has sellers that actually want to see their customers enjoy things, and I know for myself and TurkishDelites, it's more about enjoying the indvidual piece than actually trying to make huge profits. More care is taken into each product, and each has more individual attention and care. I urge anyone who buys from me to post a picture using my items. I would love to see people enjoying something that I created.

Works in Progress

I thought I would make a quick post about the things I've been working on before I post a new item on Etsy! Here is an overall picture of the things I've been working on.

Unfortunately, these Jack Skellington hair pins might not come out for a while. The sealant I tried to use just did not work, so a few pieces I made got ruined. They might be repairable if I can find the right supplies, but they will not go on the Etsy site until I can mend them. :(
This is an earring and necklace set that I'm working on. There is Pacman and Ms. Pacman that will eat the food balls on the earrings, and the ghosts will cascade off a chain necklace.
This is a hairpin set for the anime Fruits Basket. These were supposed to be Kyo and Yuki. Unfortunately, these also suffered the same tragic accident that the Jack Skellington hair pins suffered, so I can't post them until I can either fix them or remake them. This Kirby is a magnet. I got a better grade of magnet, so he can put up with just about anything! I have completed making him, taking his picture, and packaging him all up, so he will post within the next week! These Jack Skellington earrings are in the works to replace the set I sold. They are painted and ready. I just need to attach them to some earring hooks, then they will be ready to process for posting!

These were such a fun project! These are the little soots from Spirited Away and their little food pieces. These are going to be made into a pair of earrings. They are currently still being painted, but are close to finishing that stage of creation!
This was another of the unfortunate accidents. This was going to be a Death Note notebook pendant. This one was ruined beyond repair. It was very frustrating to see all the work go to waste, but do not fret! I will definitely try this one again; although leave off the bad sealant!

That has been what I've been working on. I am leaving now to post a new item on Etsy!
